Annual competition - 2nd week of judging 28/04/21

Judging continued this week for the club’s annual competition and once again our pivot to remote meetings allowed us to engage the services of a judge outside our federation. This time, despite the distance from Huddersfield, we benefitted from the experience and wisdom of Barnstaple Camera Club's Peter Fry ARPS DPAGB BPE4*. A long way from his usual territory in the Western Counties Photographic Federation, we hopefully presented him with some fresh subjects. On the is occasion his skills as a judge were put to the test with DPIs in the Architecture & Record, People, Portraiture & Figure Study, Scapes and Intermediate categories. As with the first week of judging, Peter was asked to spread marks over a wide range, providing a real split between the most successful images and those that didn't quite make the grade. Comments were detailed and insightful and gave authors plenty to think about with how they might approach shots in future when they return to the field. With the inclusion of Intermediate this week we were treated to work from some of the club's newer members. Several were making their debut in our club's competition this and at least one first time event was successful in getting one or more images shortlisted for a prize at the club's 'Oscars' presentation that will take place later in the year. In the coming weeks we'll look forward to further judging for the club's print work.
