News

The latest news from our recent club evenings and events or any other items of interest.

This Zoom session was a second chance to look at last year's print

acceptances. We had already viewed the actual travelling print portfolio

back in March so this time, as the sequence was shown, we focused on the 45

entries which had been sent to the 2023 PAGB Inter-Federation print

championships to represent the Yorkshire Photographic Union. Many of these

were category trophy winners on their own merit and understandably chosen

for the national competition. The eventual PAGB print exhibition displays

150 of the works so to have a print chosen is a high accolade. Included in

these was 'Memories of Childhood' by our own Harry Wentworth. Well done

Harry.

The last time Nigel judged for us was at the start of the COVID lockdown.

Prints had been delivered to him before the restrictions started and he rose

to the challenge of judging prints on Zoom whilst the digital versions were

displayed via the conferencing app. This time it was a pleasure to welcome

Nigel in person and benefit from his views and constructive suggestions on

four of our print categories (Open Colour, Portraiture, Scapes and

Creative). As with the earlier feedback we will have to await the 'Oscars'

on 26th June to find out which author has taken the coveted trophy in each

category.

We're really grateful to all our four judges for making choices and helping

us identify which entries will be presented on the wall and television in

the gallery in the piazza in July and August.

On the night Andrew judged prints from both the experienced and the intermediate members of our club. Andrew worked his way through many excellent prints and gave us his unbiased and thoughtful opinion on each one. He conducted the evening with purpose and supplied feedback with suggestions on how the image may have been improved. A number of images from each of the sections shown on the evening were "held back" and we will now have to wait until late June at our "oscars" evening to celebrate all the winners and commended images.

The club would like to thank Andrew for his thoughtful and excellent comments throughout the evening.
