News

The latest news from our recent club evenings and events or any other items of interest.

Tonight, we were visited via zoom by Peter Bartlett ARPS, EFIAP/b, CPAGB, BPE3*,

to give us his talk on ‘The way we were’.

Peter is a documentary photographer who shared his long-term interest in street

photography in which Peter documents as he states both everyday life, the banal,

mundane and the ordinary urban landscapes of Northern England and beyond.

Peter shared with us his past projects, especially the images that he took round

Manchester Northern Quarter which made up his ARPS panel and he invites the

viewer make up their minds about each image and what the story might be. Mostly

Peter’s images were in monochrome and from a variety of locations from

Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield to London and Milan.

Peter gave us a variety of hints and tips which were thought provoking and

encouraging you to take time and look at the environment around you.

He showed us that Street Photography does not need to be full body or head shots,

can images that are close up or just part of a hand, or feet.

A very inspiring and interesting evening giving members some inspiration to go out

and try to take images themselves.

Our judge, Steve Womack from Wakefield CC for the fourth and final set of Annual Competition categories was given 5 sets of prints: Open Colour; Architecture & General Record; Portrait People & Figure Studies; Travel; and Intermediate (Open). Steve gave comments on every image and held a number back in each category with the result that a number of our members will be watching intently at the ‘Oscars’ evening on 29th June.

Huddersfield Photo-Imaging Club would like to thank all our four judges for their careful consideration of our work. Without them and our members’ entries we would not be able to stage our Annual Exhibition so effectively.

Tonight, saw the third of our judging evenings where we welcomed via zoom, David Gibbins ARPS, APAGB, EFIAP/b,BPE5*, a highly well-respected PAGB judge from North and East Midlands Photographic Federation.

We gave David four genres to comment on all DPI images from our experienced members who had entered in Open Colour, Open Mono, Portrait and Scapes.

David was a clearly excellent communicator, enthusiastic in his love of photography, giving advice on each image as they were presented to him.

David commented on each image and awarded scores accordingly, images that were ‘held back’ on the night, we will have to see on our ‘Oscars night’ on June 29th who has come away with either the trophy, highly commended or commended certificates.
